Bursaries

Because education and developing the skills necessary to continually improve our profession is extremely important to all of us, we offer five bursaries to assist deserving individuals with their education.

The deadline for bursary applications is April 30, 2008.

If you would like to apply for a bursary and are a member in good standing of the NVICA you will need to contact the bursary committee. NIC Chef Instructor Chris Hansen, who is our interim Education Director, will have information on the bursaries.

Bursary, Scholarship Applications & Recipients For 2007

Senior Secondary Bursaries
G.P Vanier - $250 Keith Windsor
Carihi Secondary - Jessica Wind $250

Post Secondary Bursaries
Jenna Tucker - $500. NIC, Culinary Arts Level 3 graduate student
Jennifer Watts - $500. NIC, Culinary Arts Level 3 graduate student


Arnold Mueller Scholarship
Xavier Bauby - $600. Chef/Instructor, Malaspina University-College


Senior Secondary School Bursaries

Available to grade 11 and 12 students in a Cooking Career Preparation course utilizing a kitchen of commercial standards in the NVICA region, this bursary will be given to the chosen recipient upon receipt of confirmation that he/she has enrolled in a Post Secondary Professional Cook Training Program. Preference will be given to Junior members of the NVICA, and if the institution is within the NVICA region the student will receive an additional $100. Post Secondary Institution Bursaries

Available to students at least 18 years of age who are enrolled in a Professional Cook Training Program at an accredited Post Secondary Institution in the NVICA region, this bursary will be given to the chosen recipient upon receipt of confirmation that he/she is enrolled in a Post Secondary Professional Cook Training Program. Preference will be given to Junior members of the NVICA and the applicant must not be an apprentice or journeyperson in cooking. Download the complete criteria and an application form.


Centennial Foodservice Scholarship-Bursary

Available to Junior members of the NVICA who are enrolled in the 3rd level of the Professional Cook Training Program at an accredited Post Secondary Institution in the NVICA region, this $500 bursary will be given to the chosen recipient upon receipt of confirmation that he/she has enrolled in a Post Secondary Professional Cook Training Program. The applicant must not be an apprentice or journeyperson in cooking. Download the complete criteria and an application form.


Apprenticeship Bursaries

The applicant must be indentured as a Cooking Apprentice within the NVICA region at an establishment with a full facility kitchen producing high quality cuisine. Preference is given to Junior members employed by an Active or Associate member of the NVICA. Download the complete criteria and an application form.


The Arnold Mueller Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to help Active members pursue higher education in the cooking and foodservice field. The applicant must be an Active member of the NVICA. The amount of the scholarship will be decided by the Education Bursary and Scholarship Selection Committee of the NVICA. Download the complete criteria and an application form.



Should you have any questions about any of the above bursaries and how you may apply, please don't hesitate to contact us. The Centennial Foodservice Scholarship is in the amount of $500, while the other bursaries range from $200 to $500. All applications are due by April 30th.
