      Scholarships / Awards /Bursaries

Application Process:

The application form must be completed along with a letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the Culinary Arts, career goals and what the bursary/ scholarship funds will be used for. The letter must state how the applicant has been an active, participating member of the North Vancouver Island Chef’s Association. Also a letter of reference is also required from the applicant’s employer, chef or mentor.

Recipients will be announced at the June Installation Event.

Scholarships

$250.00 for SD #47, SD #71, SD #72
These bursary will be awarded to a high school students in SD #47, SD #71, SD #72  that are pursuing a career in the Culinary Arts. These students must be attending a local college to pursue their career. Funds will be released upon confirmation of enrollment in programming. Priority will be given to a student that has taken foods in high school and has shown an interest in the Culinary Arts.

Up to $1000
This bursary will be awarded to an active young chef Member of the NVICA that is currently enrolled in the Professional Cook apprenticeship. This student must be continuing their training in the Culinary Arts. Funds will be released upon confirmation of enrollment in the program.

This scholarship will be awarded to an active young chef Member to further their education and career in the Culinary Arts.

This scholarship will be awarded to an active Associate Member to further their education and career in the Culinary Arts.

$500.00
This scholarship will be awarded to any active Federation Member to further their education in the Culinary Arts. 

Competition Award: maximum $500.00

These funds are in place to support any active Federation or Junior Member that is interested in participating in a local or provincial competition. An application must be made for these funds and a letter describing the competition and stating what these funds will be used for including a budget for use of funds i.e.: travel, accommodation, supplies, etc.

 

Fred Rose Memorial Scholarship Award: maximum $500.00

This award is a selection not an application and the recipient is chosen by the scholarship committee. It will be given to an active Young Chef that has shown a dedication to the NVICA. The recipient will be chosen by the bursary/scholarship committee based on a passion for their career path in Culinary Arts, motivation to pursue their career goals, maintaining high standards in their work, excellent team player and role model for fellow junior members, participation in Association event planning, community volunteerism and dedication towards the NVICA and commitment to continued learning.

This award was created in memory of Fred Rose who was a member of the CCFCC – North Vancouver Island Branch for over 20 years. Fred’s passion for his profession Showed in both his personal catering business and his many years with the Association. He was actively involved in the planning and execution of numerous events over the years and always paid close attention to detail. His involvement ensured the Association both maintained high standards and was represented in a professional manner.

Fred was also very involved in the community with a number of organizations and applied the same enthusiastic and passionate approach to whatever he was involve in at the time.
